The Seattle Seafair Pirates Official Web Site - Pirate Kings of the Northwest since 1949 It's a high-humored heist by the Seattle SEAFAIR Pirates. The salty troupe's shenanigans and formidable float, the Duck, have become synonymous with SEAFAIR revelry. The Pirates, originally members of the Washington State Press Club's Ale & Quail Society, banded together in 1949 to promote Seattle and Seafair while having fun and serving the community. Despite their bad-guy image, the Pirates make dozens of appearances annually to hospitals and nursing homes. During the height of Seattle's SEAFAIR Celebration, they appear at several events and parades each day. The 40+ Pirates are an elite troupe who carefully selects their members based on their ability to mix well with the public and for their unique musical or theatrical talents.

WHY BUSINESSES SUPPORT
THE SEAFAIR PIRATES

The fact is that the Seattle Seafair Pirates are a community service group that serves Seattle all year long.

Appearances at fund-raising events for adopted and abused children, the Washington State Department of Human services, and support for causes for the elderly and the disadvantaged, all get the support and participation of the Pirates.  If you think of it, you have probably seen "Moby Duck" out on the street at Christmas or some other "unlikely" time helping with food programs for the homeless or traveling to an appearance/fundraiser for someone.  Remember your surprise when you thought that the Pirates only came out at Seafair?

The venerable "Moby Duck" is a financial sieve, but at the same time, it is a beloved symbol of the fun that the Pirates have brought to the community for so many years so we keep feeding it money because the community loves the old thing (we have some fondness for it too.)

Some of the other costs such as the pins and doubloons that are shared with the kids at Seafair and other appearances all cost money. The sources of these funds are organizations like the Seattle J.C.s and some private donations of a few dollars here and there. The Pirates also sell pins that are collector-quality, and are worn by supporters of the club throughout the city.  But by far, the biggest need is for Seattle businesses to recognize that the Seattle Seafair Pirates that are now on the street are the home town guys who give time/ energy and support to Seattle all year long, and who need and appreciate the financial support offered by businesses in the city they serve.

If you are a business person, consider these facts when and if you are ever asked for a donation by the Pirates or if you want to select a group that will appreciate your donation and put the money to a productive use.
