The Seattle Seafair Pirates Official Web Site - Pirate Kings of the Northwest since 1949 It's a high-humored heist by the Seattle SEAFAIR Pirates. The salty troupe's shenanigans and formidable float, the Duck, have become synonymous with SEAFAIR revelry. The Pirates, originally members of the Washington State Press Club's Ale & Quail Society, banded together in 1949 to promote Seattle and Seafair while having fun and serving the community. Despite their bad-guy image, the Pirates make dozens of appearances annually to hospitals and nursing homes. During the height of Seattle's SEAFAIR Celebration, they appear at several events and parades each day. The 40+ Pirates are an elite troupe who carefully selects their members based on their ability to mix well with the public and for their unique musical or theatrical talents.

My Old Man`s A Pirate --- What`ya Think About That?

People have often asked me, “Junior. what was it like being a kid of a pirate?” Hell, it was great! Now I was told to keep it clean, but I too am a pirate, so what do you expect?

Anyway, growing up a pirate’s kid is fun, but I grew up the son of Bob “Oddsmaker” Odman, Davy Jones 1990. & Captain Kidd 1994, so you can imagine the things I got to see. Blackbeard himself would blush! My Dad is a great pirate and when it was OK for me, as a kid, to tag along he would let me. Dad always told me, “Boy, some day if you play your cards right you might be lucky enough to become a pirate.”

I remember one year my Dad had a fourth of July party, I was about 10 years old and my old man was crazy enough to let me tend bar. It was quite an education for a young pirate in training. You should have seen all the pretty young wenches at that party, not to mention all of the stuff the pirates got up to, what a job!!

By growing up around the pirates, I got to see what a close crew they really were. That was when I knew I wanted to be a pirate someday. Years later my dad said, “Boy its about time you became a candidate,” My Mom was furious when she found out. But by then I was already part of the candidate crew.

After a year of hard work I finally became a member. I believe my Dad and myself are only the third father and son team. The others being Don Clark, Sr. & Jr. who were followed into the club later by Don and Mike Merryfield.

Well, if the Pirates thought just one Bob Odman was bad, wait’ll they get a load’a me!

I can’t thank my father and my sponsor Ben Cortez this year’s Captain Kidd enough for bringing me into the club. I hope my Dad is proud of the pirate I have become because I learned from watching him over the years, you see he’s not only my father, he’s my best friend. Thanks
