The Seattle Seafair Pirates Official Web Site - Pirate Kings of the Northwest since 1949 It's a high-humored heist by the Seattle SEAFAIR Pirates. The salty troupe's shenanigans and formidable float, the Duck, have become synonymous with SEAFAIR revelry. The Pirates, originally members of the Washington State Press Club's Ale & Quail Society, banded together in 1949 to promote Seattle and Seafair while having fun and serving the community. Despite their bad-guy image, the Pirates make dozens of appearances annually to hospitals and nursing homes. During the height of Seattle's SEAFAIR Celebration, they appear at several events and parades each day. The 40+ Pirates are an elite troupe who carefully selects their members based on their ability to mix well with the public and for their unique musical or theatrical talents.

Sea-going Santas

Friends; 1999 is historically significant in many ways.  It is the end of the millennium and the 50th anniversary of the Seafair Pirates. This year is significant to each of us in a different way.  To me one of the most important things that will happen this year is that we will continue the good work we began four years ago with the Holiday Treasure Chest.

The Holiday Treasure Chest is the program in which the Seattle Seafair Pirates deliver toys and food to the less fortunate at Christmas.  The families that are served by this program are ones that have fallen through the cracks and literally wake up on Christmas morning with nothing under the tree, if indeed they have a tree.     Each year we reach out to the community and ask if you know someone that is too proud or unwilling to ask for help.  No one has ever been turned down, and last year we were able to assist 325 of these families, and then deliver 3.2 tons of left over goods to local area food banks.

During the Christmas season, we think of ourselves as the "Pirate Santa's".  When all the parades and the festivities of Seafair are just a pleasant memory, we don a different style of clothing than you are accustomed to seeing during the summer months, and come out of hiding. The Pirates that you see would be unable to accomplish anything without the "Santa's" all over the community to help us.  We achieve our goals each year only with the help of the local businesses that offer their support.  It starts with a single phone call asking for help and ends with many smiling faces on Christmas morning.

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support. We also want to offer our special thanks to a few companies that went above and beyond the call of duty to assist our efforts.  Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, Associated Grocers, and ReMax Realty. With your assistance we do make a difference in this community.  Although we look as though we are only here to provide entertainment, the work that we do behind the scenes is so much more important than a scrape of a sword or a boom from the cannon of the Moby Duck.

We hope that you enjoy all that Seafair has to offer during these warm (hopefully) summer months, and also that you enjoy the warm feeling during the cold winter months that helping others less fortunate brings.  With your help we plan to prove that, Yes, Seattle, there is a Santa Claus, and he’s dressed like a pirate.
