Seafair Pirate Guest Book
May-June 2002

I remember a few years ago walking around downtown Renton, and I saw a bunch of the pirates parked outside Freddy's Casino (I think some of them had a sew drinks in em? arr! So did I!).. I had my mohawk up (either that, or the hat with my McKenzie clan pin), studded leather jacket, and all that.. I was new to the area then, and I remember looking over thinking "What the heck?? Pirates!" I came over and chatted with you guys for a bit, and someone asked if there was space for a new guy, but there wasn't. Someone took some pictures of us, and then I had to stumble back home. hehe.. I remember thinking then "Seattle's a great place.. there's pirates.. I think I'll stay". Heh.. and I've stayed here since! Can't wait to see ya in the parade on the 6th. Cheers!
You have funny pic.'s
Well, there's no need to be insulting!

Thanks for a wonderful evening. I had not been out for a long time. TRUE GENTLEMEN YOU ARE.
Father's Day and I was telling my kids a story my dad told me a hundred times. It was his story of the Moby Duck. My dad worked as a mechanic for the City of Seattle, specifically on the firetrucks and fireboats. Sometime in the '60's he worked on the engine of the Moby Duck. His story was he helped build the Moby Duck. Whether this story is true or not doesn't matter. He died 4 years ago and left us with wonderful memories of parades and pirates. We would sit on the balconies of the firestation on 4th Avenue and watch the Torchlight Parade. The Pirates always acknowledged us there and tried to "rescue" us. That was a very long time ago, but these stories are still my favorite to tell my kids!
spent all my summers growing up in seattle at geenlake, lake goodwin, sammamish, - my mother, cricket callender was a scorrer and timekeeper for most hydro races, including seafair/gold cup. she passed away in nov. 2000. saw your web and had to contribute to her legacy. anyone remember cricket?

Kenna I am very proud to hear you are doing well. You are very lucky to have such a good mom. I wish we could have seen you this year. Maybe next year. Keep up the good work. PS we will be keeping a close watch of you so you better mind that mom of yours. BigBoat (Pete)
For any Pirates Past and Present in the greater Seattle area.... On Friday May 31st 2002, the Admiral Benbow, Resturaunt and Lounge will be filling the mugs one last time. The owner of this venerable establishment (Neysa) passed away on May 29th 2002, and will be missed and remebered dearly for her wonderful spirit and unwavering support of the Seattle Seafair Pirates. As most of you know, the "Benbow" has been a West Seattle landmark and regular meeting place for the Pirates for some 50 years, its "Shipwreck Lounge" has been host to many a pirate sing along and I'm sure everyone has a special story or rememberance of "The meeting room". Please join most of West Seattle on Friday night from 6:00pm till closing for a last hurrah for this beautifull old girl as we say farewell to Neysa, good luck to the staff that has kept us happy for so long and Good bye to my personal favorite meeting spot, a true Pirates hangout....The Admiral Benbow!!!
I LIKE YOUR WEB SITE. MY MOMMY WORKS AT CLANCY'S AND SHE TOOK ME TO SEE YOU LAST YEAR. YOU HELPED ME WITH ME EYE PATCH. ILOVE YOU GUYS. LOVE KEENAN AGE 51/2
Plus ce change, plus c'est la meme chose. The more things change, the more they remain the same. (Or, it's just like reading today's newspaper, n'est-ce pas?)
Have I missed Laffite's drawings somewhere or do you have them on The Page yet-- I mean closeups? It would be nice to be able to see the INDIVIDUAL PIRATES with a name-- OR ..., are you all not wanting to be I.D.'ed?? -by Pirate names only, is best of course.... That's all we ask....
I am the Commander of the Army boats (the 175th Transportation Company) that moves your organization to Alki. I am pleased to see the photos of our landing craft on your website.
My fiance actually proposed to me at Seafair this year so it's very neat to be able to come here and see pictures of the Blue Angels and the hydros. You guys are so much fun! Thank-you!
We have been organizing a city-wide graffiti clean up and would like to ask your group's participation. I wonder if you might even think about providing some sort of roaming entertainment? The response to our exploratory meeting has been excellent thus far. Organizations such as RentDowntownSeattle, Downtown Seattle Residents Council, the MID, SPU, SPD and others are quite excited about it. King County has pledged a large work crew. Here's the invitation I sent: At a recent Westpac sub-committee on graffiti, we discussed the notion of a large-scale, city-wide graffiti paint out. The idea would be to work on all of Seattle in one weekend. This is not only more efficient for organizers and materials, but could lead to greater awareness and publicity of the graffiti problem. Lets meet on Tuesday the 28th at 8pm to discuss our interest in moving forward with this. Please forward this email on to others who may be interested and RSVP via email. Note that I will be unreachable from May 10-27. The meeting will be at 66 Bell #302 (ring for "Crill" at the front door). If we do this, the work to be done: 1. Divide city into neighborhoods and get a volunteer lead for each *Each neighborhood to solicit volunteers and donations *Each paint out team (3-8 people) needs one trained person *Neighborhood leads will meet to coordinate routes and training 2. Locate graffiti that volunteers cannot clean (e.g. brick) and get releases signed and map locations 3. Solicit volunteers 4. Solicit donations *Breakfast *Lunch *Prizes *Cash (to pay day laborers and Cleanscapes) 5. Coordinate Cleanscapes and Graffiti Rangers support for brick and other areas 6. Coordinate dumpster company support for paint 7. Plan post-paint out event *Location *Prizes/entertainment *Food & drink
