The Seattle Seafair Pirates Official Web Site - Pirate Kings of the Northwest since 1949 It's a high-humored heist by the Seattle SEAFAIR Pirates. The salty troupe's shenanigans and formidable float, the Duck, have become synonymous with SEAFAIR revelry. The Pirates, originally members of the Washington State Press Club's Ale & Quail Society, banded together in 1949 to promote Seattle and Seafair while having fun and serving the community. Despite their bad-guy image, the Pirates make dozens of appearances annually to hospitals and nursing homes. During the height of Seattle's SEAFAIR Celebration, they appear at several events and parades each day. The 40+ Pirates are an elite troupe who carefully selects their members based on their ability to mix well with the public and for their unique musical or theatrical talents.

My family and I were invited to attend a Christmas party held at the Lake City Community Center on Dec. 6th. We were so pleased to be the recipients of all that was offered that day. Imagine our surprise and delight when the Seafair Pirates came into the hall! My 8 year old granddaughter squealed with delight and fright at the site of all of you. I say fright (fun fright) because she still has memories of being in open toed sandals at a parade in Kenmore this summer while one of you pirates walked up to her eyeing the wiggly toes and scraped the long sword on the ground ever so close to her piggie toes. Anyway, to make a long story short - you held equal status with Santa that day in Lake City. Thank you for being there and making such lasting memories. Bless you all. Monique and family

Hey Guys!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your Cayman pics...all 3-400 of them!!! Looks like you guys have a load of fun there! I also enjoyed the pics from the Seafair Families Party as well as the other new pics ya put up!! Hey, to the guy who complained this site isn't "historical" ....so, what's yer point??? If ya want historical try typin the word "historical" followed by pirate stories and I'm pretty sure sumthin will pop up for ya to read!!! The Seattle Seafair Pirates are an awesome bunch of guys dedicated to charity work, their community, their families, and to the spirit of Pirating. I'm proud to be associated with them and the other Seafair families, all of whom are dedicated to our community here in the beautiful Pacific NW! Happy New Year to all my Pirate friends and their families! See ya next year! Beth "short wench" Hughes

This site is so not historical. It is a fake account of the true Blackbeard. I am ticked off that you would make a pirate to be lowered to that stamena. As a pirate myself I say go Jesus.

I know it's been a while but it took me this long to realize you probably had a web site. Anyway I wanted to thank you guys for being so nice to two goofy women in Seattle on the weekend of July 18th and 19th. We were there on our annual Birthday bash getaway and had just come back from the movie Pirates of the Carrabean and lo' an behold there were pirates in the lobby of our hotel. Of course we rushed out to get a camera and one of your guys was nice enough to have his picture taken with both of us. He even granted my friend's request for a "special" pose. We are two thrity something women, my friend is a mother of two and I am single w/two jobs so our getaways mean a lot to us and having that experience gave us memories to last a long time. I would sure like to hear from our special pirate (he is blond, wears glasses). Anyway thanks again for being so gracious.

We love you guys! For the past ten years, we have made it a point to travel to the Grand Cayman to see the Seafair Pirates. The comraderie and brotherhood that is displayed above and beyond the joy you have given others, has even inspired my youngest son (13)to one day be a Seattle Seafair Pirate! Keep up the great work! And, to all those Captain Kidd's of the past, present and future, know that your work is loved and admired by even us Land Lubbers! Arrrrrgggghh!

Now Mongo, please do not have anyone place marshmallows in their mouths. Placing more than one in your mouth can be very very dangerous. So all you out there listen up. Mongo has the biggest mouth this side of christmas island. Wait does not sound good. What I mean is Mongo's has a lot of empty space. No that does not sound good either. Oh heck just do not place more than one marshmallow in your mouth at a time.

RECIPE FOR GROG; Grog has come to refer to almost any adult beverage consumed by pirates in the moment. BUT originally "Grog" was a sailor's rum ration issued cut 50% with water. Grog was a derisive term aimed at the Admiral who began this much hated practice. — However if you really want to taste something like authentic grog try this; Combine 1 pint of rum, (of average quality). With 1 pint of water. Add the juice of three or four limes. (prevents scurvy) and about 1/2 cup of sugar cane juice. (sweetens up the mix. Specialty grocers might have bottled cane juice, but it's easier to get a hunk of sugar cane in the produce section next to the coconuts, grate it and squeeze it. — If that's too much trouble dissolve 1 or 2 tbs. of dark brown sugar in a bit of water and add it to the mix.) This is probably close to what the sailors might have tasted. Their rum would not have been as strong as ours today, and the refining process would have left it dark and sweet. Sailors would have knocked theirs down at room temperature, (warm in the steamy Caribbean) but chilled grog can make a decent summertime "punch."

Hey Knowlton, saw you on the front of The Seattle Times local section today. I thought pirates tried to stay out of court, prefering to settle things in a little less ... ah ... civilized manner. I guess times change. Personally, I think you ought to keel haul the SOB. Good luck!

You guys inspired me so much I came home and got out some of my own pirate stuff that I had all these years and had forgotten about. I found your website and had to check it out. I noticed you're sold out of your tshirts. Will you have more, like next year? Please email me when more are available at mwmul@arrrrggghh.com Thanks!

What a great opportunity to thank Gene Sykora *Captain Kidd 1968* for sponsoring my induction as an Honorary Greater Seattle Seafair Pirate and member of the Ale and Quail Society. I was fortunate to have shared many memories of Seafair and especially Torchlight with Gene during our time working on the Bill Gates residence. I remember being in the parade in the 50's as a Cub Scout, dressed in my coon skin cap, with real CAP shootin' six shooters, firing into the air. Some wild times at the Mayflower in the late 70's, singing pirate ditties at Oneils, after the Lake city parade in the 80's, and the last 5-6 years as the parent of two piccolo players in the All City Band, the oldest, also a 1st year Husky Marching Band member. We've had the pleasure seeing you scallywags in action over the years and would like to say how much we appreciate what you do. Cheers & Thanks, from a button vested Dad, and his two Pic players.

Greetings, Seattle Seafair Pirates, from New York City's Unofficial Wizard! Of course, I know you too loved the adventure of Captain Jack Sparrow and crew --- so, to celebrate the movie's status as the top-grossing Pirate movie ever (I believe the tally thus far stands at $ 173 million and counting), I have declared your website as my Bonus Link of the Month for August! Huzzah! Besides, I don't think I would enjoy walking the plank again! Anyway, good luck on the Seattle Seafair --- and do try to behave yourselves! As ever, Master Blackwolf

Thanks for allowing our Wenches O' Waterland gals to join in on the fun Sunday at the Des Moines parade. We all had a blast and are already planning for next years raid and outlining our rules and code of conduct. We will definitely have the insurance stuff ironed out so we can run our ship behind ya next year! I love the quote from Bill in last years Pirate magazine "What goes around comes around. Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching." I hope you don't mind if I use it! Thanks again, Elissa and crew

I am now thirty years old and I still don't like to hear the sound of the cannon shooting off ahead in the street. All I do know is the pirates are not near as scary as they were 25 years ago when I was little. I would scream and hide under our blanket. They would pretend as if they were going to cut off our feet and other pranks to frighten us. It worked. That was the one part of the parade that made you want to pee your pants. :) My kids are not nearly as frightened as I was and I don't get the same laugh my parents had at me. Not fair! Just wanted to share. :)

Iff'n ya knew how much work these Pirates do you'd know WHY there are no lady Pirates amongst 'em! They sometimes do the work of three men each! If you look at the pics from some of their "special" visits to children, the elderly and the disabled, you will understand it is a full time job and then some to be a Seafair Pirate...now I like a challange as much as the next pirate wench..but let me tell ya..these guys work just as hard as they play..and I doubt many of my fellow wenches could keep up with 'em :) Maybe some day some brave Pirate wench will start a group for us civic minded ladies and we'll be able to go out and work and play just like our beloved Pirates :) Heck, maybe they'd even let us invade the Dukw once in a while..woohoo!!! While I'm waxing poetic here..just wanna say I enjoyed reading the stories about some Pirates candidate years and Davy Jones expeiences..what fun reading..now I'll go to sleep and dream about all your crazy adventures! I look forward to seeing all my Pirate friends at Renton River days and at the Hydroplanes races...til then hav fun at all those other Seafair events :) Loads of hugs and kisses to you all!!!! To "Pop", "Fido" & "Mongo" ... you said that Naughty Nelson "is a practicing polygamist" ..... what is he practicing for? A test? Can't he get it right? And if he's older than dirt, then we really MUST commend him on having the umpf (at his advanced age) at raising his sail .. but why with more than one lass? Shouldn't he want to share his antique gold with only one special, lustful wench?

To "Curious Lady": Besides being older than dirt, Naughty Nelson is a practicing polygamist and is now accepting applications. Please forward your resume to "Mongo" care of the Pirates. Enclose a photo. One of your sister, too, ifin yee have one!

Weren't you going to take individual photos of each of the pirates and make up a "cast of characters" for us to look up our favorite pirates?

The pirates are great! had a good time at the Eagles. It's a 4th of July I'll never forget. For the person who's ear's rang for two hour's, maybe you should stay away from the parades. What would a parade be without the pirates.

I participated in the Bothell July 4th parade today, 7/4/2003, and after completing it I and others walked backed to our cars. Unfortunatly we walked too close to your Duck firing its cannons. They are way too loud and the impact on my ears was awful. Others watching were complaining, too. Dogs nearby were all upset. My ears, two hours later, are still ringing. Your group may think its funny but trust me it does not leave a good memory. I suggest for future parades you do not fire the cannons unless you are 50 to 100 feet away from the public. Today you were often only 15 to 20 feet away. I feel sorry for your membersd riding or walking in the parade. Too close.
