The Seattle Seafair Pirates Official Web Site - Pirate Kings of the Northwest since 1949 It's a high-humored heist by the Seattle SEAFAIR Pirates. The salty troupe's shenanigans and formidable float, the Duck, have become synonymous with SEAFAIR revelry. The Pirates, originally members of the Washington State Press Club's Ale & Quail Society, banded together in 1949 to promote Seattle and Seafair while having fun and serving the community. Despite their bad-guy image, the Pirates make dozens of appearances annually to hospitals and nursing homes. During the height of Seattle's SEAFAIR Celebration, they appear at several events and parades each day. The 40+ Pirates are an elite troupe who carefully selects their members based on their ability to mix well with the public and for their unique musical or theatrical talents.

I would like to Thank all of you who made an appearance at the Relay for Life event in Auburn on May 14, 2004. Dad and I are both cancer survivors, and it was a wonderful thing to see the way he lit up when he had his picture taken with you! To all I really enjoyed myself at the seafair events I went to,but I must say I really enjoyed mysealf and felt like a big kid at the Lakecity parade when I got to ride the DUCK in the parade as a native of Seattle and a seafair fan that was so much fun. The pirates were wonderful to come to our auction and donating a ride on the "Duck." People are still talking about the pirates arriving -- everyone thought it was so wonderful! The new president, Richard Andrews, I believe, told me to contact him regarding doing more with Wonderland Developmental Center - a birth to three therapy center for children with developmental delays. Candice, First you need to understand what it is we do. Unlike the SCA which by the way is a great group of people, we spend most of our time raising funds for children's charities. We travel out of State very little. We attend approx. 100 events each year That means we spend about 100 days out of 365 together as pirates. Now in order to do this we have to be able to pay for these days. The pirates do not pay the members to be part of the group, so most of us have to work. If you work full time at a job, say 5 days a week at 52 weeks a year that equals 260 days, now add the 100 days you spend pirating that gives you 260 for work plus 100 pirating equals 360 days. So you have 5 days a year to have a life outside of work and pirating. It is a huge time commitment. This is what we ask of people that what to join up. So like the good part of the SCA we too can not be drunks there just is not enough time in the year to be drunk and raise money. I hope this answers a few of your questions.
