My family and I went for a vacation in the Cayman Islands, and it wasn't till the final two days that we met the Seattle Seafair Pirates. I have found memories of the Pirates as a young kid. Growing up in Bothell i had many chances to see the Pirates every July 4th. What made it more special was getting to see my Uncle "The Oldest Living Thing" Tom, every year. Of course there was many trips to there place on Lake Wa. One year I even had the audacity to attack the Pirates with a water gun. Talk about fun. Then there was the year I dressed up as a pirate for Halloween and got to use his vest full of buttons and his sword. For those that remember the pirates from the early years they may have seen him playing his flute. He was Captain Kid in '54. Last Dec. Seattle and the Pirates lost one of the founding members of the Seafair Pirates and a great man. May the wind keep your sails full and never a storm trouble you on your journey Uncle Tom. I am 42years old and remember the pirates in the West Seattle Hi Yu parade. I was always afraid of them. One year they kidnapped a mother in our group and had her ride on the pirate ship with them. Now I am a mom and I purchased at an auction a trip on the Mobey Duck. My daughter got to ride on your ship in the Des Moines parade. She had such a good time. When we were in Jamaica and the locals found out we were from Seattle, they all said, "oh! that's where the Seafair Pirates are from". You guys are celebrities in other countries! I love that you take trips down 1st Ave through Belltown each night. I always smile when I see the "ship" come down the street out my window, with all the pirates hanging off of it. When I was 8 years old, I had life or death surgery with my appendix. I had to spend sometime in the hospital recovering. I had to learn to walk all over agian. The highlight was the Seafair Pirates. Arrrg me harties, I be sarah white from the tiny spit of a town called Barnard Castle, near Whitby in England. I've had my 20th Birthday this past wednesday and I'm counting down the days till 21, then be expecting an application ~Grin~ I've been involved in a couple of pirate groups back home in England, one of which operates out of Whitby. Everytime Captain Cook's ship comes sailing in be prepared to spot us on the deck drinking our little black hearts into a stupor on some random pint of beer or rum. I found out about your group at the tall ships festival and then from one of your friends Mike who works at Clover Park Technical College. I'd love to join, shame about the age, I don't mind abuse, quite used to it as long as you are used to recieving it =) So in a year we'll see how it goes... No matter what kind of night we see, there will always be stars in the sky, No matter what kind of day we face, There will always be clouds in the sky. Sparks of starlight extend the boundaries of life. Masses of cloud symbolize freedom in life, Beautiful flowers cannot remain blooming forever, The shiny moon cannot be full all the time, The sun that generates warmth will never leave its orbit. Only clouds! They will never be intercepted but float freely up high.
